Graduation speech

I remember when I moved to Morton grove from Chicago. I thought I would be the new one at school, but as it turned out, everybody was new in kindergarten. I can still remember the first day of school. My sister and I have never been separated, and I assumed that we never would be. They called for everybody to line up on the colored lines. My sister and I were in separate lines. I was terrified to be alone. I burst into tears begging to be with my sister. Sooner or later I forgot about the fear of being alone. I already loved going to school.
In second grade we learnt about the life cycle of many animals. One was the frog. When they brought in tadpoles, everybody was amazed. I looked them up and down. I couldn’t believe they grew legs. When I finally became a fourth grader, I thought that the fun would never end. But soon I was graduating. We had an awards ceremony and then we were gone, On to middle school. I felt like a kindergartener again, scared to leave my sister’s side. But I couldn't wait at the same time. The eighth graders were huge. I was scared but I learned that the teachers were there for me. Now, as an eighth grader, I've learned everything I need to know from Golf, and I’m ready to go to high school, ready, not scared.

How not to prepare for tests

We all know that around springtime somebody decided to pull a bunch of tests on students. Most people stress out but here are some ways NOT to prepare for standardized tests.

1. First of all, taking a good test all comes down to how tired you are in the morning, because THAT'S when a bunch of idiots decided to start testing in the even though scientists say that the human brain doesn't function properly until 10 am. Make sure the night before you stay up until 3 am watching a Netflix marathon.

2. In the morning procrastinate because your really tired, then fly out of the house without breakfast. Who needs the most important meal of the day?

3. Third, make sure you don't have #2 pencils so you have to ask every person in the room if they have a spare. Don't forget to break that pencil mid test and have to nag your teacher for a new one.

4. Rush through the test so you can catch up on the sleep you missed last night.

5. Repeat.

There you have it! I hope these tips were very helpful for your test preparations!

Endings and Beginnings

Endings and Beginnings

Just Remember, Every Ending Is a New Beginning - Marianne Williamson

When I think of new beginnings, a lot of stuff comes up. One is my time at golf. The way that when an 8th grader ends their journey through middle school, knowing everything they need to know for one yet to come, a 5th grader starts theirs; eager to learn. The way the 5th graders feel when they're forced to an awards assembly for the next three years, only to be elated when it's finally their turn.  I can imagine the way it feels to leave everything you knew for the past eight years of your life. I imagine it's sorta like when you finish a good book, when you're left on your own, contemplating what just happened, as everyone else swirls around you, not knowing the emotion you have witnessed.
Ending something can feel scary, but maybe not so much if you remember that when you end a chapter, there's a new one waiting on the next page.

Holocaust Field Trip

The Holocaust Museum

On Thursday my class and I went to the Chicago Holocaust Museum. When we were there we got little headphones to hear tour guide speak while in the exhibits. The curators chose wall colors and textures to show how the years changed for Jewish people during the rise of Hitler. One of my favorite artifacts was where a man in the Lodz ghetto took a violin case and mapped the outline of the ghetto, and all of the buildings inside. This man risked everything to make this map of the ghetto.I thought it was cool and looked very interesting. One thing that I learned was that way more people than I thought rescued somebody. I thought there were only a few people here and there, especially in Denmark, that helped somebody. I thought it was cool going to the museum and learning about the rise of Nazism. I hope that everybody can go to the museum. It's a very interesting experience.

Leap Year

Leap Year

Leap year is every four years to give us an extra day for some strange reason. My friend gave me a great idea to write about how life was four years ago. Four years ago I was in fourth grade, about to graduate from elementary school, now I will be graduating from middle school, and going onto high school. Four years ago I was terrified of the 8th graders, now I am one.  Four years ago I was outgoing and didn't care about what I got on my report card, now I check my grades every day. A lot has changed since the first leap year, but I think change is good, and I cant wait for the next lap year, when I'm a high school senior!

Bad Kitty

There was once a kitten who lived in a house with five other cats. And a human, AKA person who feeds them and gives them belly rubs as they please. One day the human thought the cats were being exceptionally  good so he went out to buy them treats. This would be kitty's first taste. The human held out the snack as the kitten sniffed tentatively at it.The other cats chewed at theirs lazily. The kitty finally decided it wasn't poison and took a nibble. Flavor burst in her mouth. She meowed and snatched the treat and ran. But too soon it was gone. She ran back up to the human and purred pleadingly, but the human wouldn't give. But kitty was a mischievous kitten and ran up to the bowl where the kept all the new found treats. All the way on top of the no kitty zone! The kitty jumped and clawed at the cabinets. The human rushed in to investigate all the noise. He looked at the cabinets. The human lost it.He wagged his finger at the kitty, as she backed up "Bad Kitty, No more treats!"

Food Blog

Food With Grandma

When I was in Greece last year, I wanted to spend more time with my grandmother, so I went to her house to spend the day with her. I brought dough from the corner bakery and set off walking to her house. When I got there she let me in and we started making tiganopsomo. For those of you who don't know  what that is, tiganopsomo is a type of fried dough and it tastes amazing! To make it we put the dough onto the frying pan with some olive oil and fried them up!
I remember my mouth watering as we made the tiganopsomo I couldn't wait to eat it. We made 5 of them and drizzled them with honey. I almost ate all of them but I remembered to save some for the rest of my family. When I got home my sisters wanted some but I only had one left and they were pretty upset all I said was  "Hey, you snooze you loose!"

Blog About Anything

Blog about anything.
First I should probably explain to you that I didn't choose to create this blog. Well I mean obviously I made it, but it was an assignment from my 8th grade English teacher. We had to create a blog and she gave us weekly blog posts which, of course, I did last minute. But then this week all of a sudden my teacher says create a blog about anything. Like how am I supposed to create a blog by myself when you've been giving us ideas for the past month! I don't know what to do! But then I got an idea... why not write a blog, About anything? Better yet why not write a blog about everything. So yay pat myself on the back. I did it ! Maybe you can comment some good blog ideas cause I don't have any. Until the next blog. ( about food!)

Movie Review

Movie Review
I'm reviewing a movie called "October Sky" which is actually an anagram for "Rocket Boys." Cool right? At least I think it's cool. It's probably not that cool. So "October sky'' is about a boy named Homer who is in high school in a small mining town near the Appalachian Mountains. His dad basically owns the mine, and wants his sons to take over. The only way out of becoming a coal miner was a football scholarship. Homer tried to get onto the team like his brother Jim, but he pretty much sucks at sports. Good thing he becomes a rocket geek! He just didn't know it yet. After seeing the Russian satellite, Sputnik in the sky, Homer decides he doesn't want to mine coal, he wants to be a rocket scientist! Go Homer! So he recruits his best friends, Roy Lee and O'Dell, and along with the high school weirdo Quentin, they go off the overcome a series of obstacles that may just make the idea of mining coal disappear. Overall this movie was really good and I enjoyed watching it. I highly recommend it.

2016

2016

It's finally 2016!! Let's Celebrate!!! Face it 2105 sucked...sooo......yeah. My new years resolutions are to get good grades. It's been my resolution forever and I still can't seem to get them up. :\   I also want to improve my scores in gymnastics. I have a meet coming up so I should be able to see how much I improved. Getting good grades would be awesome but..... ain't nobody got time for that! Just kidding. Grades are top priority in my house. I also want to start drawing more. My parents recently bought me these really cool markers, and i feel bad I haven't used them for awhile. Those are all my resolutions. What are yours?

Perfect Gift

Perfect Gift

If I could get the perfect gift it would be to get my grandmother to come to America for Christmas. My grandma lives in Greece but she lives alone and the only time i get to see her is when I go to Greece over the summer, so I miss her for the rest of the year. She doesn't like planes but hopefully we can convince her to come soon.
